Privacy policy

RethinkKNX is a private home-automation system run by one household in Warsaw, Poland. It is not a public service and not a commercial product: accounts exist only for members of that household, and are created by the operator. There is no sign-up.
What it collects
- Home telemetry — readings and device state produced by the household's own equipment: temperatures, humidity, CO2, light levels, energy and solar production, window and blind positions, and camera snapshots at the entrance.
- Account data — your username, a hashed password, and session records that include the IP address and browser you signed in from.
- Google account data, only if you connect one — see below.
Google account data
Connecting a Google account is optional and is used for exactly two things:
- Calendar (read-only) — reads your upcoming events so the dashboard and the e-paper displays can show what is on today. Events are cached on the household server and nothing is ever written back to your calendar.
- Send email (
gmail.send) — lets the system email you its own notifications, such as a message left on the owner's website. It is send-only: it cannot read, search, or delete your mail.
RethinkKNX's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What it does not do
No advertising, no analytics, no profiling, and no tracking across other sites. Your data is never sold, rented, or shared for anyone else's purposes, and is never used to train machine-learning models.
Where it is kept
Everything lives on a private server on the household's own local network in Poland. There is no cloud database. Google credentials are encrypted at rest, and access tokens are never shown in the interface.
Third parties
- Google — for the Calendar and Gmail features described above.
- Sentry — receives automatic error reports from the production server so faults can be diagnosed. A report can incidentally include a username or a URL that was being requested when the error happened.
The system also reads public data from weather, air-quality, news and transport services. Those are outbound requests for public information and carry none of your personal data.
How long it is kept
Telemetry is kept for as long as it is useful for charts and automation, and some of it is pruned automatically. Google credentials are kept until you disconnect them.
Your controls
- Disconnect Google at any time in Settings. This deletes the stored credential immediately.
- Revoke access independently at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Ask the operator to delete your account and its data. There is one household and one operator, so this is a conversation, not a ticket queue.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date above changes with it.
